2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Leadership Transition Comes After Lukewarm Response
The new appointee steps into the role of studio head at the development studio following the exit of previous head Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to the game's lackluster initial reveal last autumn.
On Wednesday, 2K president David Ismailer notified employees about this decision through an internal memo, which emphasized that early feedback sessions had revealed the requirement for a more defined game identity.
The president expressed that the team is now reimagining the project with a refreshed vision, aiming to satisfy gamer demands.
Trend of Key Recruitment
The news mirrors a comparable step taken by 2K Games in August, when they recruited an industry veteran from Blizzard to work on the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.
Below is the complete content from Ismailer's announcement:
Team—
I know you all just completed your meeting - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the recent updates. Previously I shared you all a message, I stated the following: “I believe in this crew. You all are some of the most dedicated and talented creators we have had the pleasure to work with - and we’re excited for that collaboration to endure.”
Through your commitment and flexibility, particularly over the past twelve months, you repeatedly show that.
The gamer responses from last fall’s the game testing phase was informative. It validated the appeal of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had improvements to make. It highlighted the requirement for a clearer vision.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve progressed. You embraced the criticism to heart and reimagined Project ETHOS with a revitalized direction - one that’s positioned to achieve its potential to our players.
The belief in Project ETHOS increases every day. To advance the outstanding progress you’ve made, I am thrilled to announce the new hire as the new Lead of 31st Union. After some time of talks, he starts with us on next week.
Ben’s guidance and background in the competitive gaming field is considerable, having spent the recent years creating and managing some of the most popular franchises in the industry, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, Apex Legends.
Please join me in welcoming Ben soon. We are all looking forward to keep seeing the progress of Project ETHOS in the weeks to ahead.
The President

He earlier worked at major gaming companies in various development positions on the Call of Duty series, and, earlier in his career, had assignments at other industry leaders.
Game Details and Vision
The upcoming game was announced in October 2024 alongside a public demo. At the time, the developers described the title as a "free-to-play, 3rd-person roguelike hero shooter and an exciting step forward on the style."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Build your hero in real-time to suit your personal playstyle," the game's pitch states. "Challenge the competition with fresh skills, stakes, and tests that shift every session. Will you leave securely with your collected items? Alternatively take a risk, risk it all, and trust your team can achieve the highest spot? The decision is yours."
Project Ethos lacks an confirmed debut schedule or consoles, but players can anticipate additional details as development progresses.
